If a Tree Falls in the Forest, Does Anybody Hear?

In Psalms, when King David looked back at his life and all that he’d been through, he recognized that God was with him, beholding him, the entire time. In my upcoming novel, my main character realizes this in prison. I believe it often takes a rock-bottom moment for awareness to take hold. It was like that for me. A mental breakdown at the age of forty-five.
Eckhart Tolle, author of The New Earth, uses the word consciousness to describe this concept of knowing or awareness, of what is. For me, this realm is where the magic resides. When you know, without doubt, that you are held by Creator, it is life transforming. We’re held whether we realize it or not, but when you aren’t aware, you can’t receive the gift. And the tricky thing is, you can’t know what you don’t know. You can’t fool yourself into believing.
Moments of despair plant seeds of consciousness. If they fall on the fertile ground of an open mind, they take root. It’s a miracle disguised as ordinary. It’s a gift I’ve received, that I feel compelled to share. My words are my seeds. My heart calls me to keep planting, even when the winds and rains of life uproot them. Even when it feels like no one is listening. When a tree falls in a forest, can anybody hear?
